The first Hooley Irish dancers started as a group of home school students who met informally with Crystal at a local church in 2001. In the beginning, classes were focused only on learning Irish traditions and performing.  When Crystal passed her TCRG in 2008, Hooley students were also allowed to start competing.

Although students are not required to compete, Crystal does encourage students to try the "feisianna" that initially pulled her into the Irish culture.  Hooley frequently sends soloists and teams to compete in Regional, National, and World competitions.
